65 More Days

The wind was still gale-force today, so we decided to stay indoors.  I pulled out this DVD and we danced away for an hour.  You go through warm-up, Paso Doble, Cha-Cha, Samba, and Jive, then a Cool Down.

My favorite is the Jive.  I also think I sweated today more than any other day this week.  But it was so much fun. Maybe I'll Jive my way through this 5K.

Today the wind decided to kick in.  I called it resistance trainging. lol.  It cut our outing short because dust kept blowing into my eyes, and Ness wound up with a nasty sneezing.coughing fit. Plus, I was having trouble catching my breath, and my right leg was hurting.

Ness came up with a mini-goal - next week, jog 1/4 mile at one time. I've been able to do about .15-.20 mile. Time to up the ante!

Ok ok, the weekend is over. Time to get serious again.

Slowly...Gotta work back up to the distance we were jogging last week. Plus, our niece Hazel came over for an hour so we didn't get out until later in the evening, and couldn't stay out once it started getting dark.

Steps: 3102
Distance: 1.468
Distance (jogging): .48 miles

YUM!!

So it's Sunday. We decided to try a change of scenery. Took our route to the Bike Path. We saw rabbits and squirrels and even an egret. Only one bicyclist was a jerk as he zipped past us all speedy-fast, telling us to "wake-up."  He could've moved over into the next lane instead of trying to pass two joggers in the same lane.  Whatever.

Ness misread the pedometer and we jogged ALOT less than we had been. LOL.

After our run, we stopped by the Kaiser Permanente Farmer's Market for some fresh fruit.  Wound up buying 3 plants (Cherry tomato, senorita jalapeno and pepperoncini) and trying Okra Chips (OMG delicious!! Definitely getting some next weekend)  We're gonna try to make this our Sunday morning routine.

Steps: 3618
Distance: 1.712 Miles
Distance (jogging): .26 miles

I wonder if I could see these shoes at night?

Today was a busy day.  We spent 2 hours in the morning working in the garden, transplanting seedlings, planting new seeds and setting up a drip system.  Trainer said that was good enough for a workout today.

It's a good thing too! We broke the record high temperature with 98*

71 More Days

Today, the Trainer says is a day to rest and not run.  Who am I to argue??  So as a reward for my first week of training, I am running to the theater to watch the newest Nicholas Sparks' film, The Lucky One. Yay!!

Temperatures are supposed to be in the 90s this weekend, our daily jogs are going to be in the morning before the heat wave comes in.   Early morning, and running. Blargh.   We'll see how that goes.

I hurt.  My feet hurt. My thighs hurt. My knees hurt. My butt hurts. My shoulders hurt. My back hurts.

Found out today that I have a running stalker.  She sits in her car, unsuspectingly, and then yells at me as I jog by. I don't know who it is, but there was an all too familiar patchouli smell emanating from her car...

Steps: 7033
Distance: 3.328 miles
Distance (jogging): .78 miles
Time: Approx 1 hour.  Maybe I should start carrying a watch.

When I first told Ness about this race, she was hesitant to join.  The race takes place at the end of June, which means it's going to be H-O-T. (And everyone know that hobbits don't like the heat)  Add to that, the race will be at the Fairground - one big dusty dirt pile. Heat, dust, sweat, colored corn-starch being thrown at you.  The odds just weren't in Ness's favor.

But I signed us up anyway. :)

I thought it would be fun to create a countdown chain. I got the idea from my sister, Melissa, who made one when she ran her first marathon - the Tinkerbell Run at Disneyland.  I came up with some positive affirmations for this race and other encouraging dealios and glued them inside random chain links.

The countdown chain is draped across the mantle in the living room so that it can be seen everyday. This serves as a motivator to me, to keep me in training.  Ness takes of a link each day. If there's a note inside, she reads it out loud, to remind her about the positive reasons that we're doing this, no matter how silly or trivial they might be. I hope this helps both of us stay on track for the race.

The countdown chain started with 79 days till race day. so far there have been two notes inside:
1. Laughing at everyone covered in paint
2. Something new for us to try.

73 More Days

Yeah it's only the third day, but I'm still doing the happy dance as I make improvements.  We took a new route today through a really nice part of the neighborhood where we found some historical homes with some plaques from a tour.  I need to find this tour! I want to see these houses.  Plus I found some more inspiration for home improvements for Amelia. LOL  This race may wind up costing a lot more than the registration fee.  :)

Steps: 6668
Distance: 3.15 miles

74 More Days

I enlisted Nessa as my "trainer"  She loves running, so I signed us both up for the race. Her job is to get me in shape for this event, as my major goal is to be able to jog/run one consecutive mile during the 3.1 miles.  My job is to keep her mind on the positive aspects of this race (more about that later.)

I bought a pedometer today that counts my steps and my distance. We're going to use that as a guide to set small goals each week, working up to that one mile mark.

Each day, we'll walk/jog three miles. Here I'll record each day's measurements to see how much I'm (hopefully) progressing.

Steps: 5400
Distance: 2.556 miles
Distance (jogging): .35 miles

Let the Training Begin!

There are 75 days until Race Day. I figured training should begin now, since a) I've never run before and b) I'm not a runner.
I signed up for the Color Me Rad 5K simply because I can throw paint at people. LOL!

Here are the new shoes I bought for this event.  Let's see what they look like at the end of June.
